Hey, obé fam: It’s time to Ride. Ride is our newest high-intensity yet low-impact cardio class—and like everything else we do, it’s the way we take on indoor cycling on obé that sets it apart. Ride will have obé’s distinct look, feel, and sound, and we’re so excited to bring it to the fam.
What sets Ride apart? Rather than relying on leaderboards and metrics, we encourage obé Riders to use the music, instructors’ cues, and your own rate of perceived exertion (RPE) as guidance for class. No numbers, no outputs, no RPMs: Just a fun, dance-driven, beat-based experience.
Best of all, there’s no need to buy any expensive hardware to try indoor cycling with us. That bike in your basement, at your gym, in the hotel, or even the one in your neighbor’s garage (just ask before you use it, okay?) will do just fine. At obé, we don’t expect you to invest in fitness equipment; we want you to invest in yourself.
So, why now? “We’ve always toyed with the idea of bringing indoor cycling to obé, and the timing has never been better,” explains Melody D., our Training + Programming Manager. “More people own bikes at home or are returning to their gyms, and still want to obé every day.”
Plus, we’re tapping into an overall trend in fitness toward lower impact forms of cardio that helps our bodies stay strong and healthy in the long run, Melody says. Cycling is the perfect alternative to traditional, high-impact cardio: It’s fun, fast-paced, engaging, and effective, but also easy on the joints to ensure long-lasting enjoyment of exercise.
Whether you’ve never taken a cycling class before or are cycling-obsessed, you’ll find a class for your level—from Ride 101 to show you the ropes to athletic Ride HIITs to test your endurance.
Classes vary in length from 10-minute Express bursts up to 45-minute endurance rides to fit into any schedule. Some longer classes will feature a light-weight, high-rep upper body strength section, too, for a full-body workout.
What are the types of indoor cycling Rides on obé?
Ride brings high-intensity, low-impact cardio to your bike—any bike. These beat-based rides include intervals, hills, and some follow-along choreography that get your heart pumping, sweat dripping, and endorphins firing. Let’s take a (joy) ride!
Ride HIIT takes you through high-intensity sprints and hills coupled with lower-intensity rest intervals designed to improve cardio endurance, metabolism, and overall fitness. This class is inspired by the beat and mood of the music—so you can Ride like an athlete.
Who teaches Ride on obé?
Ride with obé instructors you already know and love: Liz C., Peter T., Mary W., and Alex S. are all teaching Ride classes. Here’s how their classes will feel, in their own words:
Mary W.: “My classes are going to hit every point on the spectrum. We’re going to ride the wave of the beat, but also find moments out of our comfort zone. We’ll be tapping into different muscle groups and increasing our endurance in a major way. You’ll walk away feeling so accomplished and hopefully a little euphoric.”
Peter T.: “Expect a dynamic ride that’s rooted in technique but accented by joy and passion. After class, you’ll feel energized by endorphins and encouraged by the self-commitment you put in. The resistance and pace are your tools to push yourself, but I encourage grace.”
Alex S.: “Category is: Dance party on a bike. In my classes, you will sweat, you will smile, you will (probably) sing along, you will laugh, and you will work—all to the beat of the music. You’ll leave your bike feeling physically stronger, mentally lighter, and more confident than you arrived. My classes are all levels and all around fun.”
Liz C.: “Expect a bomb playlist, lots of sweat, and a fun, inspiring dance party. After class you’ll feel accomplished, inspired, affirmed, and ready to go after your wildest dreams. Ride with me long term and you can expect to hold yourself accountable more often, fear less, and lead with an open heart.”
What results can I expect from Ride?
No matter who you Ride with, obé Rides will leave you feeling like a rockstar. You’ll feel sweaty and accomplished; empowered and ready for more. In the long run, cycling with obé will increase cardiovascular endurance, improve strength (particularly in your lower body, but also all over!), help decrease stress, prevent injury (due to its low-impact nature), and boost overall mood and energy levels.
